The History
of Chowan Beach
by George Farrell and Rawl Gelinas
Preface
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10
Preface
The
history of Chowan Beach, Arrowhead Beach,
Bandon Plantation, and rural Chowan County
have so much in common that it is very
difficult to separate each from the other in
many respects. Up until the actual
creation of the Chowan Beach Sub-Division
and then the subsequent creation of the
Arrowhead Beach Sub-Division, these two
communities both share a common history
going back to the pre-colonial days of the
Native Americans.
This is followed by time of the colonial
settlers, the post colonial days right up to
the many decades and different owners of
Bandon Plantation which eventually provided
much of the land of what we know now as
Chowan Beach and Arrowhead Beach.
Most of this history was written by George
Farrell and was originally intended to be a
history of Arrowhead Beach. George
kindly re-wrote it with Chowan Beach in mind
(especially Part 10) and passed it to me for
editing, minor corrections, and
transcription into html.
Thank you George for all the work you put
into this effort. - Rawl Gelinas June
